Welcome to The Self Governance Project – a blog dedicated to helping individuals learn how to govern their own lives.
Our society is filled with many problems. Depression, anxiety, gun violence, addiction, slavery, dishonesty, hate, and division are only a few. It seems that these problems get worse and worse with each day that goes by.
What if the root cause of many, if not all of these social ills, was the same thing? What if these problems could be cured in a way that most people aren’t even thinking or talking about?
Self governance. Self mastery. Personal responsibility. This idea has many names, but its effect is the same. When a person realizes that they are responsible for their own actions, despite whatever circumstances they find themselves in, that’s when their life changes. As Leonardo da Vinci once said: “the height of a man’s success is gauged by his self-mastery; the depth of his failure by his self-abandonment.”
Unfortunately, many of us have abandoned ourselves. We may not participate in the societal problems mentioned above, but we still, for some reason, feel stuck. We feel like we’re missing out on something, but we’re not sure what. Or we may have big problems in our lives that we don’t know how to solve or where to even start.
Before the American government as we know it came into existence, the colonists were mostly people looking to create a new life for themselves. When they came to America, they became the most free people the world had ever known until that point. For the first time in history, man could shape his own destiny in this new land. This idea became so important that blood was shed and a new government, a self-government, was established to enshrine it.
The Self Governance Project is about empowering individuals through responsibility to promote freedom. We explore stories from the past about the importance of mastering the self and couple them with data from the present to illustrate the wisdom of those gone before us. If there is anything we feel will help improve the lives of others, we’re going to feature it. We seek to explore every aspect of life from self-development to finances to relationships; we’re going to cover it all.
Thank you for joining us on this journey.
